Posh sign Bursik to cover for keeper Pym

Peterborough United have signed Josef Bursik on loan from Championship side Stoke City after having first-choice goalkeeper Christy Pym ruled out for the rest of the season by injury.

Pym, 25, suffered a torn side muscle in the build-up to Sunderland's equaliser in Monday's 1-1 League One draw.

But Posh have acted fast to being in Bursik, 20, on an emergency loan.

The England Under-21 international had a two-month run in the Stoke first team earlier in the season.

That came after returning from loan at Doncaster Rovers - and he had another loan spell in League One last season with Accrington Stanley.

New Posh loan signing Josef Bursik has made 16 appearances for Stoke City this season

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: "We had to think fast. We have a list of keepers in case of something like this happening. He was the one we wanted. It's a good signing to make at such short notice.

"He is a good size, has good temperament, is outstanding with his feet so ticked all of the boxes."

Former England Under-20 international Pym has started every League One fixture for Posh this season.

"It is a big blow," said Ferguson. "The boy has been very consistent over the last two seasons, but we have to get on with it.

"He did ever so well to finish the game against Sunderland. He was struggling and when you see the extent of the injury you can see why."

With seven matches remaining, second-placed Posh are just two points ahead of third-placed Sunderland, who have a game in hand.

Bursik's Posh debut is scheduled to be at Swindon this Saturday.
