Marcus Rashford reveals ex-Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho showed him how to win penalties

Marcus Rashford has revealed how Jose Mourinho instructed him to become more streetwise in the box as the Manchester United forward prepares for Sunday's title showdown with Liverpool.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp recently bemoaned the number of penalties his team are awarded compared to United.

And Rashford claims former United boss Mourinho triggered the change in the club's fortunes in that area.

'There have been times when we have probably not got penalties,' he said.

'I remember when Jose was manager, there were five or six times where I should have had a penalty and he ended up saying to me, "If you are not savvy about the way you do it, then you are not going to get it".

'After that, we started to get a few penalties. It was something you have to learn and understand.

'When you are making runs in behind or dribbling with the ball and you see a challenge coming, you don't want to get tackled because you are looking at an opportunity to score a goal.

'It is just a case of us wanting to score goals and the teams wanting to defend goals — penalties can happen.'

United would extend their lead over Liverpool to six points with a victory at Anfield this weekend.

'For me, there's no sweeter feeling than scoring against Liverpool or Manchester City,' said Rashford (left), this year's recipient of the Football Writers' Association Tribute Award.

'There's no bigger games for a kid from Manchester to score goals in, so it's definitely a game I'm looking forward to.

'It's going to be a good feeling if we manage to win the League. If we finish second or third, it's not going to have been a good season for us.

'We are more dangerous, we can score goals at any time. But it's a start. We can do much better. We have an unbelievable connection.'
