Asensio: Real Madrid are sad and angry, but this is football and we have to continue

Marco Asensio was disappointed to be on the losing side as Real Madrid fell to Athletic Club in Thursday's Supercopa de Espana semi-final.

Asensio was Los Blancos' biggest threat on the night, but his efforts weren't enough to salvage a result after the Basques took a two-goal lead in the first half.

"They started very well and it was hard for us at the beginning," Asensio said after the game.

"We looked like we had them at the end.

"We're sad and angry, but this is football and we have to continue."

The Spaniard believes that Athletic's opener allowed them to grow into the game, which put Real Madrid on the back foot.

"It wasn't the intensity," he said.

"They grew after the first goal.

"We tried, but we couldn't. We tried to change in the second half, but that wasn't enough."

Asensio, not getting too down about the result, says that Real Madrid will have to bounce back in order to compete on other fronts.

"We're sad and angry, but we have other goals," he added.

"We have to get back on our feet."
