Crystal Palace's Jordan Ayew says he is fine

Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew has confirmed that he has tested positive for coronavirus and has begun self-isolating for 14 days.

The 29-year-old tested positive on his return from international duty where he featured for the Black Stars against Mali and Qatar in Antalya, Turkey.

He was forced to miss Sunday's English Premier League clash against Brighton Hove & Albion and has revealed that he has already started his mandatory isolation to overcome the disease and stop its spread.

"Sadly, I have tested positive for Covid-19 & have begun my quarantine in line with the health guidance," Ayew said in a statement on Sunday after Palace's match.

''Thankfully, I am feeling fine & do not have any symptoms.

''I will be cheering the boys on from home & look forward to being back on the pitch soon. Stay safe.''

Ayew has become the sixth Ghana international to contract the virus.

Vitoria Guimaraes left-back Gideon Mensah, Spain-based defender Joseph Aidoo, Kasim Nuhu of TSG Hoffenheim and Besiktas midfielder Bernard Mensah contracted the virus during their stay in camp.

Trabzonspor striker Caleb Ekuban, despite testing negative, was hospitalized in Turkey after showing strong symptoms of coronavirus with a very high temperature.

The Ghana Football Association has come under pressure over the handling of the friendlies which seen official Jones Alhassan-Abu also tested positive.
