The President of the National Council Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Mr Alexander Danso has charged the Education Ministry and Ghana Education Service, GES to solve the issues confronting Senior High School (SHS) placement permanently.

According to him, to release the stress parents and their wards encounter in regards to SHS placement the Education Ministry and the Ghana Education Service should do the needful.

His comments come on the back of troubled parents who besieged the premises of the Black Star square today September 16, 2019, in the hope of securing Senior High School placement for their wards.

Speaking to Starr FM, Mr Alexander Danso said over the years the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) has been associated with challenges and that issues confronting the SHS placement need to be addressed once and for all to prevent such unfortunate situations

''This year's exercise is terrible although we have been going through series of challenges every year. We started practising the computerized system for about 10 years ago. Are we not learning anything from it? Why do we always compound problems instead of solving them? Self-placement is done after the normal placement but in this year students were asked to do self-placement and that compounded the problem''.

''In a situation where parents get to know their children are placed in a particular school, they go there for the prospectors. The next day you go to the school your name isn't there''.

He further indicated that: Some parents wasted as much as GH3000 in purchasing items for the wards. Communication is very important if GES had communicated to the parents about things they would have known but here nothing is said. The GES needs to sit down, go back to the drawing board and see the problems associated with it, know the challenges and resolve them''.

He also stated that such issues are occurring due to lack of collaboration between the GES and the parents body.

Adding to that he said the GES failed to communicate their strategies with the parent body in relation to the SHS placement.

Meanwhile, the PRO of the Ghana Education Service Cassandra Twum urged both parents and their wards to be calm saying that ''no qualified child will be left behind''.

Black Star Square chaos

The Education Ministry asked students who have not yet been placed to come to the Black Star Square to have their issues addressed.

The meeting was to secure schools for qualified students who were left unplaced by the computerized system which allows schools to students based on their grades.

The PRO of the National Ambulance Service Simeon Yussif said two persons were rushed to the hospital, a son and his mother  by the ambulance service

''The two cases involved a mother and the son. The son was the first to be attended to and was rushed to Ridge hospital. Later, the mother also complained of chest pains and we attended to her.No death recorded''.

Report indicate that parents were asked to go home with their wards today after converging at the Black Star Square for hours and asked to come tomorrow for their issues to be addressed.
