Dawn rpt Dawn Yram Zaney, 29, unemployed, has been remanded into prison custody by a Ho Circuit Court for allegedly stealing and raping a student of the Ho Technical University.

His plea was not taken and would reappear in court on June 11, 2019.

His accomplice only known as “Wale” is on the run.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Stephen Atidzon told the court presided over by Mrs. Priscilla Dikro Ofori that on May 22, 2019 at about 0030 hours, the complainants, students of the Ho Technical University headed towards the Ho Kpodzi Evangelical Presbyterian Church premises, in Ho for studies.

He said upon reaching a section of the road near the Adaklu lorry station at Ho-Heve, the accused persons, who emerged wielding a pistol and a cutlass accosted them and threatened to kill them if they refused to hand over their belongings.

The prosecution said the accused persons forcibly snatched their mobile phones, a Techno w3 valued at GHC 400.00 and an Itel phone from the victims.

He said the accused persons then walked the victims at gun-point to a distance of about 150 metres and Zaney forced one of the complainants onto a septic tank and raped her.

Inspector Atidzon said the other complainant lied that she was pregnant so the accused only assaulted her sexually by inserting his finger into her private part.

He said the accused and his accomplice bolted after the act, leaving the victims to their fate.

The prosecution said a complaint was lodged with the police and medical report forms were issued to both victims to attend hospital for examination.

He said the complainants later led the police to arrest Zaney in the community but he denied the offence.
