Sporting Gijón chief Miguel Torrencilla has pencilled down Isaac Cofie as the most important player in the team.

Statistics suggest that the Ghanaian has been extremely essential to the Rojiblanco since the departure of coach Ruben Baraja.

The Asturias-based side have lost four of their eighteen games which Cofie has been included in the starting line-up.

They have recorded nine wins, five draws and lost four in all competitions.

With the numbers in hand, Cofie is the midfielder who has participated in greater number of successes for the club in the ongoing season.

Coach Jose Alberto echoed the sentiments by Torrencilla after claiming that the 27-year-old’s physical display has been a great help to his outfit.

“Cofie has a great physical display and its greatest virtue is contention. Maybe his work is not the most showy, because at the time of creation he intervenes little or only to provide continuity, but when they attack Sporting or losses occur, it is very necessary.”

Former Gijón midfielder and now Technical staff of CD Numancia, Cristian Bustos acknowledged the importance of the Ghanaian to the Rojiblanco.

“He's a very important type of footballer for me in any team to maintain that counterweight between defense and attack. Even in the big teams that profile is necessary.”

Cofie joined the club on a two-year deal in the summer after failing to extend his contract at Italian Serie A side Genoa.
