I’m Not The Best Coach In Ghana – CK Akunnor
Asante Kotoko trainer CK Akonnor has played down calls that he is the best coach in Ghana now following his tremendous transformation of the club.

Akonnor was named the head coach of the Porcupine Warriors in October last year and has since transformed the club despite no competition in Ghana, just under four months.

Following the side’s steady rise in form, especially in the CAF Confederation Cup campaign, passionate fans of the club have described him as the best manager in the country in recent times, a claim the gaffer has turned down.

“I’m not the best manager in the country now. I’ll be the best when I retire,” Akonnor told FootballMadeInGhana.com after his side’s clash with ZESCO United on Wednesday.

The former Dreams FC gaffer seem to be enjoying a consistent rise in his career after guiding the Still Believe boys to the Ghana Premier League and guiding AshGold to escape relegation subsequently.

After kicking out Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks in the first round of the competition on a 2-1 aggregate, Akonnor guided Kotoko to whip Cameroonian side Coton Sport Garoua on 5-3 aggregate to make it to the group stage of the competition.

Despite not enjoying a good start in the opening group clash with Al Hilal, Akonnor managed to steer his side to register an important 2-1 win over an organized ZESCO United side on Wednesday in Kumasi.

Akonnor adds that there have been coaches who guided him to where he is today and will prefer calling them the best and not himself.

“I’m not. There have been people who have guided me to get this far. If I want to mention their names, it will be a long journey.

“I learnt a lot from coaches like Afrane, Ardy, Attoquayefio and my teacher Ben Koufie as well as Osam Duodo who took me to Australia. They are the best,” he added.

Akonnor, however, believes that with hard work and resilience, he will be remembered for his work when he is finally not on the sidelines again.
