Eroded Spots On Accra-Kumasi Highway, Awarded On Contract
Some portions of the Konongo-Odumasi stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway, rendered accident- prone due to continuous erosion, has been awarded on contract.

Continuous erosion on the shoulders of the highway has created deep trenches, now jutting into the main road, posing a serious threat of road accidents to commuters.

Three of such spots requiring urgent steps for repair have been identified between the Odumase and Konongo portion and work would soon commence to avert possible danger.

Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, who visited the area to acquaint himself with the extent of deterioration, announced that a contract has been awarded to HighBrains Company Limited, to fix the problem.

He said the contractor had been tasked to expedite work to ensure early completion due to the dangerous nature of the road.

The Regional Minister said that stretch would be part of the dualization of the Kumasi-Accra highway project and expressed the hope that it would ease pressure on the road to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
Mr. Osei Mensah urged all who have put up structures in areas earmarked for the project to vacate to avoid eviction when the project begins.

He said those affected would be duly compensated and urged the Assembly to ensure their relocation.
Local government players in Ashanti, were also cautioned to desist from issuing or renewing permits for people occupying places reserved for public projects.

Mrs. Susan Akomeah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), expressed appreciation for the swift action to fix the problem and pledged the Assembly’s commitment to ensure the success of the project.
