2 Nabbed Over Attack On Tutors
Two persons who were part of a gang of parents who attacked and beat up tutors at Mim Senior High School in the Asunafo North Constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region, for punishing their wards for misbehavior have been arrested.

The action of the parents forced tutors of the school to embark on a day’s strike to protest against the parents and students alleged attack on them. Though names of the suspects were not made available at the time of filling this report, information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicated that the two were assisting the police to arrest their accomplices.

Secretary to the local teachers association, Emmanuel Zuga confirmed the arrest of the suspects on the local FM radio station, Space FM at Sunyani. Explaining the circumstances that led to the attack on them and the subsequent decision to embark on strike action, Mr. Zuga said a tutor on duty last Monday punished some students by allocating a plot of land to them to weed for using unapproved route to the school.

This, he said, did not go down well with the students who went back home and reported the matter to their parents. Their parents then came to the school and attacked the tutors. He explained that, that was not the first time tutors at Mim have been attacked but it has been going on for some time now.

“Sometimes parents come to rain insult on us, beat us and curse us by their gods. We therefore embarked on the strike action to register our protest.

“We have sent letters to the municipal assembly, Nananom and the district education directorate that we are not teaching again. But as we speak now, we have called off the strike and are teaching due to the intervention of the municipal education directorate. Chiefs of the area have also called on us and apologized to us as efforts are underway to arrest those who attacked us.”

Mr Zuga explained that due to GES regulations, tutors now fear to even cane students hence punish them by giving them plots of land to weed for going against school regulations.
