2024 Elections: Nothing Will Make Ashanti Region Vote For 'Afrafranto' Party - Prof. Smart Sarpong Jabs Alan

Senior Researcher, Professor Smart Sarpong has jabbed the Movement for Change, a political movement founded and led by former leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen. Alan Kyerematen is contesting this year's December elections as an independent candidate and, to him, his Movement for Change which has a butterfly known in local parlance as "afrafranto" as its symbol is a movement to empower the youth and improve the lives of Ghanaians.Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo" in relation to the selection of a Running Mate for the ruling party, Professor Smart Sarpong delivered an analysis of the political landscape in Ghana. He noted that nothing will compel the people of Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to vote for any other party apart from the "elephant" party. To him, the Ashanti Region has proven to be in love with the NPP irrespective of how one looks at the party's performance. In his view, the Region won't vote for the Movement for Change either despite Alan Kyerematen being the crusader.“I don’t know what will worry the Volta Region to the extent that the Volta Region will vote for a different party.

The same way, politically, nobody should be deceived into thinking that the Asante (Ashanti Region) will vote for a different party, not even the ‘afrafranto’ party; there is no way they will happen.

When you stay in Kumasi, you will know how much they love their elephant”, he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh. On the NPP Running Mate slot, the Senior Research Fellow of the Kumasi Technical University advised the rank and file of the party to "manage their expectations" to avoid conflicts if their favorite candidate isn't elected.
