Gender Ministry To Re-Launch HIV/AIDS Sensitisation In Central Region
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) would soon re-launch HIV and AIDS awareness programme in the Central Region to involve the youth in spreading the message.

Mrs Cynthia Morrison, the Sector Minister and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, made this known when she paid a courtesy call on Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, the Omanhene of the Nyakrom Traditional Area of the Central Region.

She said her visit was to express her gratitude to the Omanhene and the Divisional Chiefs in Agona West for their prayers and support which has led to her appointment as a Minister by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mrs Morrison said after the re-launch, the youth would be given training before they embark on house-to-house campaign to create the awareness of the dangers of HIV and AIDS.

She said the AIDS menace, which has no cure, was still in existence and there is the need for the public to be sensitised against indiscriminate sexual activities.

Mrs Morrison said the disease was high in the Central Region and called on queen mothers in the Agona West to take the initiative to educate the young girls and boys to abstain from premarital sex.

The Minister said the usage of the social media and the internet has exposed teenagers to early sex and urged parents and guardians to be vigilant on the movement of their children.

Mrs Morrison urged opinion leaders and stakeholders to help carry out sex education in the basic and senior high schools, social clubs, and keep fit clubs, to curb the spread of the disease.

Other areas the Minister visited were Agona Nkum, Upper Bobikuma, Lower Bobikuma, Kwamang and Agona Abodom to thank the chiefs.

Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, the Omanhene of Nyakrom Traditional Area, expressed his gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for promoting the MP to a ministerial role.

He expressed the hope that Mrs Morrison would work hard to improve the living conditions of the people.

At Nkum, Nana Nyarkoh Etuah III, the Obaatan of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, urged the Minister to be focused and help bring development to Agona West.

He assured of her and her government of their continuous support to ensure that more social interventions are rolled out to support the poor and the needy in society.

The Minister expressed gratitude that the paramount chiefs and his subjects stood firm behind her before, during and after the Vetting Committee leading to her current appointment.

She pledged to work extra hard to bring success and glory to Agonaman, the NPP government and the nation.

The MP urged the chiefs and the people in Agona West to rally behind President Nana Akufo-Addo in his efforts to develop the nation.
