Call To Convert National Cathedral Into Hospital Groundless - Yaw Preko Replies TUC

A Deputy Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party, Yaw Preko has vehemently dissented to the suggestion by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for the National Cathedral to be converted into a hospital.Addressing the 2023 May Day parade in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region under the theme: "Protecting incomes and pensions in an era of economic crisis: Our responsibility", the Secretary-General of the TUC, Dr Anthony Yaw Baah said converting the cathedral project into a hospital will serve the needs of Ghanaians better.“The President has always said he wants to create another Notre Dame in Ghana so we can attract a lot of visitors but we disagree.

Ghana has too many Ministers and deputy Ministers”.But Yaw Preko doesn't find the TUC proposal sound enough as he recounted that, in as much as, building hospitals is significant, it is equally important that the government undertakes other projects that will be beneficial to the citizenry. To him, the Cathedral is as important as the hospital the TUC is calling for, hence expressing his disagreement with them."If you are saying we should turn it into hospital because of lack of money, then I ask where will we find the money to build the hospitals?", he questioned."The lack of money is not enough grounds to demand that we should stop constructing the Cathedral but turn it into a hospital...So, because you think we should build hospitals, the government shouldn't do anything else.

If that is so, then we won't construct schools because we need hospitals.

If we go by this, then we don't have to establish roads because we need hospitals.

If we follow this, then we won't build water facilities because we need hospitals", he added.Listen to Yaw Preko's full submissions below:
