Minority Concerns On 2022 Budget Will Be Considered By Government - Ken Ofori-Atta

The Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta has said concerns raised by the Minority in Parliament on issues such as the economic transactions levy, the Agyapa deal and the need for allocation of funds in the budget for the construction of sea defence walls to protect coastal communities against tidal waves will be given attention by government.

The Minister made these comments in Parliament after the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had moved a motion on Tuesday 30th November, 2021 in the absence of the Minority in Parliament to challenge an earlier rejection of the 2022 budget last Friday.

Mr Ken Ofori-Atta stated that the estimates contained in the 2022 budget do not include revenue from the Agyapa transaction.

He said government is still engaged in consultation on the issue.

The Minister said the e-levy introduced in the budget will help ensure debt sustainability, provision of adequate infrastructure and help create employment opportunities for the youth.

The Finance Minister said government is concerned about the standard of living of the people and is therefore engaging the Telecommunication companies for steps to be taken to minimise the effect of the 1.75 percent e-levy on Ghanaians.

Mr Ken Ofori-Atta also said more sacrifices would be required from Ghanaians to help the country mobilize enough revenue to develop the country.
