Rugby Africa Sevens Championship: Ghana Through To The Semifinal Stage

The Eagles of Ghana have secured qualification to the semifinal of the Rugby Africa Sevens Championship ongoing at the Paa Joe Stadium in Kumasi.

Ghana booked a place in the semifinal after an impressive win on Saturday, November 27, 2021.

The team whitewashed Niger 32-0 in the first game before walloping Benin 50-0 to book a spot in the semifinal of the championship.

Ghana is chasing a ticket to the final in a big game against Benin on Sunday while Burkina Faso will face Ivory Coast in the second semifinal game.

The Ghana female team, on the other hand, have also secured a place in the semifinal after impressive wins against Togo and Burkina Faso.

The first game against Togo ended 51-0 in favor of Ghana who went ahead to narrowly defeat Burkina Faso 19-17 in the second game to reach the semifinals.

Ghana leads the table in the women’s category with two games to spare. Cote d’Ivore is second.

The tournament serves as route for countries to book their places in the final qualifying round in April next year, which means winners will progress to the final round in 2022.

Meanwhile, the day one of the championship was attended by high ranked dignitaries which include the President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Mr Herbert Mensah, officials from Africa Rugby and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi.
