I’ll Defend Mahama Legacy With My Blood - Baba Jamal
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Mr Baba Jamal has stated that he and the opposition National Democratic (NDC) in the Akwatia constituency would use confrontational approach if need be to defend the unprecedented legacy of former President John Dramani Mahama.

He said the NDC’s contribution to the development of Akwatia and Denkyembuor district is unmatched; therefore he would not allow any group or individual to destroy the legacy of ex-President Mahama.

“Let me state without any iota of doubt that the NDC as a party has contributed to the development of Akwatia as a town and Denkyembuor district as a whole than any other political party.

“Denkyembuor district as a whole and Akwatia in particular have never seen huge investments and developmental projects since the beginning of the 4th Republic like they witnessed in the four years of my tenure as MP and that of John Mahama.”

According to the former lawmaker, the ruling New Patriotic Party, having been struggling to execute its campaign promises for the people of Akwatia, had started laying claim to projects initiated  by the NDC government in the district.

“It has become the habit of some personalities in this district and especially in Akwatia town to try to misrepresent history and claim glory for certain landmark projects that were initiated by the NDC government and mentored by myself (Baba Jamal) as MP. Henceforth, I will not sit down for anybody be it a chief, government official or party functionary to misinform the good people of Akwatia.

“I will confront anybody, be it government official, MP, chief, individual who will attempt to distort history or spoil the good name of the NDC and my good self.”

At a press conference organised by the party at Akwatia to set the records straight, Mr Jamal stated that Denkyembuor district was established through his initiative which started in January 2011 with support from Osiewuohene, Daasebre Asumadu -Appiah II which was given strong consideration by the NDC government; therefore it was incorrect for anyone to claim glory.

According to him, he was also instrumental in putting Ghana Consolidated Diamond (GCD) Limited on divestiture and secured from the NDC government GH¢ 300,000.00 as severance package for the workers.

He also stated that the NDC government in 2016 awarded the contract on the ongoing Akwatia town roads project with 5km asphalt, the main Asamankese to Kade road project which passes through Boadua and Akwatia Zongo roads.

He added that he pushed for communities such as Topremang, Boadua, Bamanase, GCD area, Camp, Asubone, No.4 and Ahweaso to be included in the ARDA Water Project.
