N/R Floods: Gov’t Response Sloppy – NDC
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its disappointment with government for, what in its view, is the slow response by the government to helping victims affected by recent floods in the Northern Region.

At a press conference on Monday, 17 September 2018, the party said while many disasters cannot be stopped, it is imperative to prevent its impact on lives and properties.

The Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr Salisu Bi-Awuribe accused the government of being insensitivity to the plight of the victims in many districts of the Northern Region.

He chided Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to comment or visit the distressed inhabitants of the region when he was in the north last week to the launch the School Entrepreneurship Initiative.

"Ironically, this is the region and districts he claims to be his home. Sad isn't it? Barely two years ago, this same man and his flag bearer would have rushed to funerals of fowls … with simulated sympathy just for votes," he lamented.

He accused the Akufo-Addo government of adopting a poor and sloppy strategy in sending warning signals to residents in flood-prone areas.

The NDC's statement comes in the wake of the spillage of the Bagre Dam coupled with perennial rains that has destroyed thousands of farmlands, livestock and lives.

At least, seven people are reported dead due to the floods.

The NDC Secretary said government is rather worsening the devastation of the victims with the delay in providing relief items to the people.

Mr Bi-Awuribe explained that the party in its own way, has organised some relief items through their MPs to support the victims and has directed all constituency executives to support the victims who lost their homes.
