I’m Still A Kumawood Actor —Maame Serwaa
For many movie lovers, Kumawood actress, Clara Benson, popularly known as Maame Serwaa is like their own child.

This is because they have seen her in movies right from her childhood into her teenage years and she has grown into a beautiful young woman.

But over the last few months, her fans have noticed a change in her image. Not only has she relocated to Accra, she has been making appearances at a number of events and is looking all polished up.

Even her social media profile has undergone some changes and although very positive, it has left some of her fans wondering if she is abandoning Kumawood for Ghallywood(English speaking movie fold).

However, Maame Serwaa told Showbiz on Monday that she is still a Kumawood actor.

“Oh my fans should not panic at all. I am still that Kumawwod actor who puts her all into everything she does.

“Yes there have been some changes in my life, in terms of how I look and all that but it is simply because I now have a team that takes branding very seriously.

"Nothing has changed about me, I still get Kumawood scripts and act like I used to. I am someone who appreciates my roots and will not forget the people who helped me get to where I am today.

“I still have a good relationship with directors and producers so the fact that I am in Accra and do things differently doesn’t mean I am no more a Kumawood actor, she said.

Maame Serwaa turned 19 few days ago and although she has managed to remain relatively scandal free, there are many who feel like she is growing up too fast and may start engaging in some negative acts.

And she has dismissed that fear saying she will not go that way especially because she doesn’t want to disappoint her late mother.

“I can handle fame and I have been handling it since my career began as a child so there is no way I will do something that will bring shame to the people around me. I don’t drink nor smoke, I am not someone who likes to go clubbing and all that.

“The people I work with run my life and my late mom taught me a lot of things about life.

"If not for anything at all, for the love I have for my late mother, I need to live right so that I can make her proud,” she said.

In April this year, Maame Serwaa appeared in a BBC documentary where she talked about her career. She spoke on the need for women, particularly in Africa, to be supported, and given opportunities that would make the world “believe in them more.”

She told Showbiz that it was a great experience. “I was really excited when I got the opportunity and it was in line with one of the many things I want to achieve in this acting journey of mine.

"You know I have an NGO that has interest in Girl Child education so I took the opportunity to talk about it was well,” she said.

Maame Serwaa has featured in many movies including Me Ba, School Girl, Sekina, Tumi, Ntaafo) Tumi, Otan Ne Bayie, Maame Serwaa Asuoden, Bayie Economy, My Mother My Jewel and many others.
