Major Demolition Of Structures In Prime Areas For National Cathedral?...Kwesi Pratt Angry
Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, says he has intercepted documents which indicate that there is going to be a massive demolition of structures from the Passport office in Accra to the roundabout close to the Ridge Hospital.

"I have seen official letters notifying residents to move out; a completely crazy idea which should not be tolerated at all," the seasoned journalist indicated.

He made this disclosure while contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji, Saturday.

This demolition is to make way for the construction of the National Cathedral; an edifice which is going to be an iconic centre for thanksgiving and to worship God for His mercies according to President Akufo-Addo.

Few months after the design for the cathedral was unveiled, Kwesi Pratt has disclosed that official letters have been given to residents to vacate their buildings.

According to him, 'whoever gave the order for the demolition should be put in line' because not only is it 'unfair', it is also 'not cost effective'.

"...(demolition) of buildings from the current passport office; all the way to the Ridge circle (Roundabout) to make room for the construction of the national cathedral…after our checks we were told that the residents in the area have been served with notice to move out. This whole thing is so shocking because some of the buildings are only 5 years old…

I am just wondering; who decided to do this? There is so much land in Ghana, Accra; everywhere for the construction of the cathedral. Why do you have to pull down already constructed buildings; millions of cedis going waste...and the cost involved. Why? Why can’t we save these buildings and build the cathedral on a virgin land?" he queried.
