Removal of EC Bosses: NDC Acted In Bad Faith - Afenyo-Markins
The Member of Parliament for Efutu constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of acting in bad faith as far as the removal from office of Madam Charlotte Osei is concerned.

According to the NPP MP, the leading opposition party "have acted in bad faith" and "have been inconsistent" with the removal of Madam Charlotte Osei and her two deputies.

He made this statement while contributing to a panel discussion on Joy FM's newsfile programme Saturday.

The EC Boss, Madam Charlotte Osei and her two deputies Mrs Georgina Amankwaah and Amadu Sulley were removed from office following a recommendation from a Committee set up by the Chief Justice.

However, the NDC were not happy with the decision and threatened to demonstrate against it.

According to them, Madam Charlotte Osei’s suspension is an agenda of the ruling party to rig the 2020 elections.

Some political pundits including Afenyo-Markins do not understand why the NDC are fighting and challenging the suspension of only Charlotte Osei.

He said, “they (NDC) should not pretend Amadu Sulley and Opoku Amankwah doesn’t exist” adding “if each time institutions try to do its work and we turn around to bastardise them, then I am afraid we are not going to get anywhere”.

Afenyo-Markins also accused the NDC of sponsoring a ‘card-bearing’ member of the party to file a petition against Amadu Sulley and Mrs Opoku Amankwah.

“If there is any manoeuvring the NDC is guilty of same by sponsoring a card bearing member who subsequently petitioned the President. They sponsored a member of the EC to also petition and equalise . . . it is a fact and they know it . . . let’s allow the system to work. It is good for democracy,” he said.

Meanwhile, the MP has urged the NDC to go to court if they are not happy with the decision.

According to him, they “can apply to join Kweku Baako (in court) and the court will allow them in".

If you may recall, Veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has headed to the Supreme Court to question the removal of Charlotte Osei.

Among the reliefs he is seeking is a declaration that upon a true and proper construction of Article 146 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, a petition for the removal of the chairperson of the EC, pursuant to the provisions of Article 146, was only valid if such a petition alleged stated misbehaviour or incompetence relating to the performance of the core constitutional functions of the chairperson of the EC.
