According to Mr Mahama, obtaining the 8th spot is symbolic and presents an opportunity for the party to challenge the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7 elections.

During a campaign stop in the Ablekuma North Constituency as part of his Greater Accra tour, he highlighted the irony of the NPP's slogan to "break the 8," noting that the number 8 now rests with the NDC, and challenged the NPP on how they can break it. "By God's grace, we picked number 8.

So, some people say they are going to break the 8.

The eight is with me, let them come and break the eight and let me see," he said.
