Member of Parliament(MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr.

George Akuffo-Dampare, to show more compassion in handling detainees amid growing concerns over the arrest of anti-galamsey (illegal mining) demonstrators.

In an open letter addressed to the IGP, Sam George expressed grave concern about reports of detainees being denied medical attention, warning that the situation could have dire consequences if not addressed. "Chief, you owe a duty to the citizens in the custody of your outfit to be humane in your handling of their persons," Sam George wrote.

He highlighted the worrying reports that individuals detained under "extremely bizarre circumstances" were being refused access to medical care, which he said raises serious concerns about their welfare.
