There is intense lobbying to replace the resigned Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama who resigned from office suddenly yesterday, 25th September 2024. The company is said to be pushing for an insider to take over the job rather an "outsider" appointed to manage the state electricity company. The staff of the Company which is organized into a Head Office with a Managing Director, supported by three Deputy Managing Directors say they prefer one of the three deputies to be named to manage the company in the interim.
Others are of the opinion that one of the eventeen (17) Directors of the various directorates of the ECG , preferably an Engineer, could be tapped to takeover in the interim. Among the outsiders for the job include daughter of Chief of Staff Frema Opare, Maataa Opare the Fidelity Bank Staff accused of conflict of interest in Forex trade between the ECG board on which she serves and her employer, Fidelity Bank which sells Forex to the power company at rates experts queried. Others include Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, an Ashanti regional NPP politician who serves on the board and who is likely to face the same problem Dubik Mahama faced if appointed.
