Asante Akim North lawmaker Kwame Andy Appiah Kubi has said regarding the Legislative Instrument that permits mining the forest, he and some of his colleague legislators opposed it when it was brought to Parliament.

However, he said,  the dissenting voices did not have the required numbers to reject it. "When the LI was filed, some of us disagreed but we needed a two-thirds majority to be able to reject it, we didn't have it," he said he said while speaking during the thought leadership forum on the theme "Galamsey Fight: Beyond the talk, what next?" organized by Media General in Accra on Wednesday, September 25.

He further indicated that the fight against illegal small-scale mining should be devoid of politics.

He states that the impact of galamsey knows no political colors therefore the need to address it dispassionately. "it should be devoid of politics whoever has not performed has not performed in the capacity he has been given to serve," he said while speaking during the thought leadership forum on the theme "Galamsey Fight: Beyond the talk, what next?" organized by Media General in Accra on Wednesday, September 25.
