Staff members of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) and the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) have initiated a demonstration against their management. The staff who donned red armbands in protest of prolonged delays in salary negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) say they are frustrated by the lack of empathy and leadership by those concerned. The demonstration comes after years of frustration, as GAEC and NRA employees continue to seek better compensation for their critical role in advancing science, technology, and innovation in Ghana.
For over four years, employees of these two institutions are said to have awaited a fair adjustment to their salaries, but they say their appeals have yielded no tangible results as attempts to engage with the FWSC have stalled, leaving staff feeling increasingly marginalized. According to MyNewsGh sources, the latest round of negotiations ended in a deadlock, with the FWSC failing to respond to further inquiries. This silence has exacerbated feelings of disrespect among employees, despite their crucial contributions to nuclear research, safety, and security in the country.
Currently, employees receive less than 6 Ghana Cedis per litre as a fuel allowance, while inflation and price hikes for necessities have further strained their financial situation. This they say has led to declining morale and productivity, impacting both the employees and their families.
To demonstrate their frustration, staff have taken to wearing red armbands and draping the facility's entrance in red. .u8edeffae1df0f645963060e30c850463 { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#E74C3C; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #C0392B!important; text-decoration:none; } .u8edeffae1df0f645963060e30c850463:active, .u8edeffae1df0f645963060e30c850463:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u8edeffae1df0f645963060e30c850463 { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u8edeffae1df0f645963060e30c850463 .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:#F1C40F; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u8edeffae1df0f645963060e30c850463 .postTitle { color:#FFFFFF; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u8edeffae1df0f645963060e30c850463:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ ALSO: I'm too big to steal a car- Prophet Badu Kobi responds to INTERPOL arrest warrantThis symbolic protest aims to send a clear message to the FWSC and other relevant authorities that the situation is unsustainable.
