Members of the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) have announced plans to embark on a nationwide strike starting Thursday, September 26, in protest over their employer's failure to meet their demands.
In a letter signed by MOWAG General Secretary Richard Kofi Jordan, the association stated that all mortuaries across the country will be closed on the specified date to express their dissatisfaction.
The letter highlighted several unresolved issues, including the lack of provision of PPEs, unpaid salary arrears dating back to 2020, the failure to financially clear 500 workers, and the non-payment of the COVID-19 bonus promised to mortuary workers by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
As a result, MOWAG members have been "directed to close all mortuaries and stay at home until their demands are addressed." Below is the full statement.
