A coalition of freight forwarders, customs agents, and trade associations is set to organize a protest on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, to highlight exploitative practices by shipping lines operating in Ghana.
The demonstration is being led by the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), the Association of Customs House Agents of Ghana, the Freight Forwarders Association of Ghana, and the Customs Brokers Association of Ghana, in collaboration with concerned stakeholders.
The protest, according to a statement, is aimed at drawing attention to what the organizers describe as exploitative charges and practices by the shipping companies, which have burdened businesses and impacted trade activities across the country.
Protesters will gather at the GIFF premises in Tema and proceed on a peaceful march to the offices of various shipping lines in the city.
In addition to the march, the coalition plans to present petitions to key government bodies, including the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Finance, the Speaker of Parliament, and the Ghana Shippers' Authority, outlining their grievances and demands for regulatory intervention.
