Renowned Ghanaian reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni, has added his voice to the growing calls for government intervention to address the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, commonly known as "galamsey." His call aligns with the I Stand Against Galamsey campaign launched by Channel One TV and Citi FM.
The campaign urges the government to take decisive and sustainable action against illegal mining activities that are devastating the environment and polluting vital water bodies.
Speaking on The Chat, Dawuni emphasized the need for Ghanaians to unite in the fight to protect the country's natural resources, particularly its water bodies and forests, which have been severely impacted by unregulated mining activities. "Everybody has seen what is going on.
Whether you watch it on TV, it is shared on social media, or someone passed that information to you, we know that our land and the water that we drink, our trees are all being compromised by the mining that is happening close to our water bodies and destroying these water bodies.
This is something that requires all of us for the solution to happen. "From leadership to religious leaders to individuals; every Ghanaian has to lend their voice so that we can be able to stop this because right now the whole world is watching and as a country that provides leadership for the rest of Africa, this is not something we want everybody to know.
So, let's rise and stop galamsey now."
