A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has warned that the Electoral Commission (EC) could lead the country to disaster if necessary precautions are not taken.

According to him, the EC must heed the concerns of political parties and take action on their requests, particularly if those requests can be addressed before the elections.

Speaking on JoyNews' AM Show on September 19, he said, "If this nation is not careful, the EC will lead us to destruction.

The sort of pronouncements they come up with make us question if they are even qualified to be in that position.

There have been instances where there have been transfers to different parts of the country, and the people were not even aware.

The records are there." Read also: 'I firmly believe an external audit of the voter's register is necessary' - Goasomanhene to EC On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a nationwide demonstration in protest against the Electoral Commission (EC).

The NDC is accusing the EC of refusing to allow for a forensic audit of the voters register after it alleged a number of anomalies, including illegal but mass transfer of voters in many places.

The Deputy Commissioner of Operations at the Electoral Commission has condemned the National Democratic Congress for its decision to hold a demonstration over the EC's refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter's register.

Samuel Tettey argued that protests would not lead to a credible voter's register.

In response to this, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe added that national elections are a serious step, and it is the responsibility of the Electoral Commission to address any concerns that arise.  "Where we are going to now, for Tettey to come and say they are not going to listen to demands that have been brought by the NDC is a serious matter," he said.
