Researcher calls for zoning system to combat galamsey

Joseph Kwame Blay, a researcher, priest, and community mobiliser, has called for a comprehensive zoning system in Ghana to address the rampant issue of illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.

This follows the devastating state of resources due to galamsey activities across the country.

Speaking on Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, Rev.

Blay proposed the establishment of these distinct zones to regulate mining activities effectively. "There must be zones in Ghana.

There must be a green zone, which will be no mining…Then there should be the amber zone where places like the savannah areas which is not too vegetable or is not very good for farming if they are mining they do it well." "Then we have the real places where gold is concentrated like Obuasi, like Tarkwa and then we do the proper mining," he stated.
