The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged that his administration, if victorious in the 2024 general election, will prioritise agriculture and strengthen food security.
He outlined that this would be achieved by providing significant support to farmers, enabling them to adopt mechanized farming practices.
Speaking to stakeholders in Ada, Dr.
Bawumia emphasised that his plan to establish district-level mechanized farming resource pool centres would provide critical assistance to farmers, enhancing productivity and ensuring sustainable food supply across the country. "I still believe that we as an agricultural country and any government will have to pay attention to agriculture and fishing in our economy; that is what drives an economy.
60% of our population in the north, south, east and west, is engaged in agriculture and fishing. "So, this is where I want to focus, to bring technology to add to our farmers, bring loans to add to them so that they can expand their production to make sure that they can obtain [equipment] that will allow them to do farming on large scale bases so that we can to bring food prices down and ensure food security," he stated.
