Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared the party's firm opposition to any efforts aimed at involving private institutions in the operations of the Electoral Commission (EC).
This statement comes in response to the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) recent calls for an independent forensic audit of the voter register.
The NDC has been vocal in its demand for a thorough forensic audit, raising concerns about alleged discrepancies in the voter register ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Party leaders, including the National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, have reiterated that the audit is necessary to ensure transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
The NDC has warned that without such an audit, it believes the EC would be unable to conduct a free, fair, and transparent election.
During protests organized across all regions of the country under the theme 'Enough is Enough', NDC members called on civil society, religious groups, and traditional leaders, including the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to put pressure on the EC to meet their demands.
A petition was submitted at the EC's headquarters and regional offices, stressing the urgency of an independent audit to maintain confidence in the electoral process.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Henry Nana Boakye reaffirmed the NPP's position, making it clear that the party would "strongly resist" any attempts to introduce private institutions into the EC's operations.
He emphasized the NPP's commitment to preserving the EC's independence and integrity, declaring that such an introduction "shall never happen."
