The Ghana Union Of Traders Association (GUTA) has reiterated its calls for President Nana Addo Dankwa to declare a state emergency.
This follows the devastating effects of illegal mining(galamsey) across the country.
President of GUTA, Dr Joseph Obeng speaking at the "I stand against Galamsey" campaign on Channel One TV on Monday stressed the need for the government to direct efforts to eradicate the menace.
He also stressed that the government must define clear criteria for legal and illegal mining.
Dr Obeng called for strict enforcement of mining regulations across the country.
He stated that the security services must ensure the confiscation of machinery used in illegal mining.
According to Dr Obeng, the government needs to ensure civil society and organized labour act without bias. Source: Elsie Makafui Amudjie
