Parts of the N1 Highway in Accra have seen significant damage to guardrails due to numerous accidents.
A report highlighted that on the Awoshie-Ablekuma Highway, remnants of destroyed guardrails have ended up on the sides of the roads, creating additional hazards for vehicles.
In conversations with road users, some expressed concerns about the deteriorating state of pedestrian guardrails, which have been neglected for some time.
One driver remarked, "I think we have authorities on the ground who should be more proactive.
This situation endangers both drivers and pedestrians.
They need to act to ensure our safety on the roads." Another driver told 's Richard Vanderpuije that, "Sometimes, trying to get into the outer lane is challenging.
Over time, these conditions have done little to prevent fatalities in the event of accidents on this stretch." The guardrails on the Achimota overhead are also in poor conditions, with no reconstruction efforts made for many years.
Road users are urging authorities to address these issues promptly to prevent further accidents.
