Ghanaian Hiplife musician, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, known professionally as Guru NKZ, has re-entered the presidential race for the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Ghana.

It will be recalled that Guru, following his disqualification from the SRC presidential contest submitted a petition against the SRC Electoral Commission.

The basis for his disqualification was his non-resident status, which contravenes Article 30 that stipulates candidates must reside on campus and be eligible to run for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position within their respective halls.During the vetting process, both Guru and his running mate, Jeffery Adu Yeboah, acknowledged that they were not residents of any hall, resulting in their disqualification.

In response to this decision, Guru's legal team filed a petition with the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, requesting a review of the ruling.

Furthermore, they submitted an interim injunction to the Judicial Board, seeking to temporarily suspend the electoral process until a thorough hearing and ruling could be conducted.

After the hearing, the Appeals Board unanimously overturned the disqualification on September 15, 2024, with a vote of 7-0.The board ruled that the names of Guru and his running mate should be included among the presidential candidates.

Mr.

Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah, another previously disqualified candidate, has also been reinstated to rejoin the race.

The balloting for all candidates approved by the vetting committee is set to take place on Monday, September 16, 2024.
