Legal Counsel for the Minority Caucus and Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has stated that he will oppose any attempt by a future (NPP) government to remove the Chief Justice appointed under the current (NDC) administration.
Speaking on Adom FM on September 3, 2025, John Darko, expressed the view that the judiciary, as an arm of government and an institution, must be adequately protected from political interference. "I've heard people saying that the next NPP government should take steps to remove the Chief Justice who would be appointed by President Mahama.
My advice to them is that we shouldn't think or behave that way.
I'm saying for certain that if the NPP assumes power in 2029, and it attempts to remove the sitting Chief Justice, I will speak against it and oppose it. "This is not something I would want to support.
