Eight persons suspected of engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) activities at Pakyi Kaniago have been arrested by police from the Asokwa Division in the Atwima District.
According to a report by 3news.com on September 3, 2025, the arrests were made during a two-hour operation on Sunday, August 31, along the River Nwere, River Abufunu, and River Akai, where the suspects were caught actively mining using chanfang machines.
Apart from the eight persons arrested in the operation, several others managed to escape as the police moved in.
Items retrieved from the site included eight motorbikes, multiple pumping machines, and one excavator.
