Law enforcement agencies in the country have made several arrests in connection with the tampering of cement bags owned by Dzata Cement, after fraudsters were caught refilling genuine packaging with inferior cement for resale.
In a public statement signed by Managing Director Nafisa Mahama, the company confirmed that, with the support of law enforcement agencies, the culprits behind the fraudulent scheme have already been apprehended and investigations are underway. "Unfortunately, fraudsters have tampered with our packaging, opening genuine Dzata Cement bags, replacing the contents with inferior cement, and resealing them for resale. "With the support of law enforcement, the culprits have already been apprehended and investigations are ongoing," the statement said.
The arrests follow the circulation of a recent online video purporting to show substandard Dzata Cement.
The company, however, clarified that the product featured in the footage was not manufactured by Dzata but was the result of criminal tampering.
