The police in the Upper West Region have in their grip a 38-year-old woman who stole a one-week-old baby and other valuables belonging to the mother of the baby from the Wa Market, popularly called Kejetia.
A statement from the police said the suspect, under the guise of a caretaker, deceitfully lured the mother of the baby on August 10, 2025, to purchase baby diapers in the Wa Market and took advantage of the situation to abscond with the infant and her handbag containing a phone, cash, and other personal effects.
However, a swift and coordinated action by the police led to the arrest of the suspect on August 15 at her hideout in Nuobollie.
The suspect was arraigned before the Wa Magistrate court on August 18 and will reappear on September 2.
