The Communications Officer in the Sunyani East Constituency of the , Abubakari Yakubu, has turned down an invitation extended to him and other constituency executives by the presidential aspirant, Dr .

In a strongly worded letter sighted by this paper, Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando, said while he initially looked forward to the scheduled meeting at the Rock City Hotel in the Eastern Region, he could no longer honor the invitation following what he described as "irresponsible tribal remarks" made by the former minister against former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, Dr Acheampong's recent comments suggesting that Dr Bawumia played a role in the protracted Bawku conflict were both "misguided and "dangerous" to the party's unity. "Today, you have unfortunately joined the regrettable chorus of the misguided who are peddling lies about Dr Bawumia as the one who fueled the conflict between the Kusasis and the Mamprugus," he wrote.

The Sunyani East communicator argued that the NPP's struggles in recent elections were largely due to neglect of the grassroots and growing apathy within the party, not because of ethnic or tribal factors.
