The 2nd Edition of the High School Maths League (HSML) Inter SHS Competition, organised by Enobanation Ghana, culminated in an Excellence Awards Ceremony held on Thursday at the Great Hall, Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Fomena.Tettey Faith Mawulawe, Suleman Abdul-Razak and Abdul-Karim Rufaidu Wumpini, all from T.I.Ahmadiyya SHS emerged overall best, second and third respectively.Ms Mawulawe also received the Outstanding Female Student award.Mr Tieku Stephen from T.I.
Ahmadiyya SHS was recognised as the Most Outstanding Teacher, while Mr Maxwell Amofa from Asare Bediako SHS and Mr Louis Amoah from Dompoase SHS received recognition as the 2nd and 3rd Most Outstanding Teachers, respectively.The ceremony was on theme "Mathematics for Everyone, a Fundamental to STEM Education."The HSML is a math competition among the three SHSs in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region in which 100 students from each school were selected to participate in a written maths exams without the use of calculators.The students started the competition from bronze level progressing to silver and gold, dependent on the score of more than half of the 80 questions for each stage.Speaking at the awards ceremony, the District Chief Executive, Charles Kofi Ogbeh, emphasised that mathematics was for everyone and serves as a fundamental building block for thriving in a rapidly changing world.He noted that every great invention and technological breakthrough rests upon the foundation of mathematics.Mr Ogbeh pledged the District Assembly's commitment to supporting Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics education by collaborating with the Ghana Education Service and development partners to improve teaching and learning resources.The founder of Enobanation Ghana, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Asamoah, announced that two additional senior high schools from the Adansi enclave would join the competition in the ensuing year, alongside Asare Bediako, T.I.
Ahmadiyya, and Dompoase Senior High schools.The District Education Director, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Amankwah, encouraged stakeholders and corporate institutions to financially support the project to ensure its longevity.The guest speaker, Mr Nicholas Abekah, praised the HSML initiative for fostering unity and bringing out the best in students, expressing confidence that it would positively shape their lives.The District Coordinating Director, Mr Thomas Okrah Kwame, advised students to cultivate discipline in all their endeavours to achieve their goals.Awards were presented to outstanding students and teachers.
