Former General Secretary of the (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has urged members of the party to return to its founding values of integrity, volunteerism, and service, as the New York Chapter celebrates 33 years of existence.
In a goodwill message to the chapter, he congratulated the members for their "devoted service and unwavering commitment" but expressed worry over the current trajectory of the party and the nation. "The NPP of today is totally unrecognisable from the movement we fashioned out of adversity in 1992," he lamented. "It is pretty obvious that both the NPP and our motherland, Ghana, stand in urgent need of rejuvenation, regeneration and renewal." He stressed that internal politics of division and monetization were undermining the true spirit of the party, warning against a culture where votes and leadership are determined by money rather than merit and service. "Our tradition was never about money; it was founded on sound values, virtues and volunteerism," he cautioned. "We should not create a monetary barrier that debar capable and competent but less endowed patriots, thereby virtually handing leadership opportunities to a wealthy few." Calling for a "New Dawn," Kwabena Agyapong encouraged members to select leaders with integrity, character, empathy, and emotional intelligence-qualities he said are essential for inspiring hope in the youth and rebuilding trust in the party. "As we mark this milestone, let us continue to work together to rebuild, regenerate and rejuvenate our base with hope, unity, and purposeful leadership," he concluded.
The NPP New York Chapter, formed in 1992, is marking 33 years of political activism, mobilization, and support for the party's activities both in Ghana and the diaspora.
