Over 10,000 pets, including dogs, cats, and monkeys, have been targeted for free anti-rabies vaccination in the Kpone-Katamanso municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Receving Dr Emmanuel Kwao Pecku, the Tema Metropolitan Veterinary Officer with oversight duty for Kpone-Katamanso, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the free rabies exercise would commence on August 29 and end on October 02, 2025.

Dr Pecku said the exercise was put together by the Veterinary Services Department (VSD), Ghana Health Services (GHS), and Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) in collaboration with the United Kingdom-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mission Rabies.

He stated that it was important for every household to ensure that their pets were vaccinated against rabies infection, which could be fatal; hence, the need to comply with the directive to save lives within the municipality, stressing that certificates would be awarded to owners who present their animals for the vaccination exercise.
