The founder of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, clashed with the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof Ahmed Jinapor, over the brouhaha surrounding his use of the doctoral title.
During a panel discussion on JoyNews PM Express on August 18, 2025, Prof Jinapor indicated that his outfit's demand for some public figures to show proof of the academic titles they have been using does not amount to a witch hunt.
He said that in the case of the former presidential candidate, a letter was given to him to show proof of his PhD credentials, but it has not been done. "In the case of my good senior brother, Hassan Ayariga, he has two honorary doctorates and he says he has a PhD.
We are not even going after the honorary doctorate; we are saying that if you have a PhD, produce evidence.
