Following the arrest of an assembly member and three others in connection with an illegal mining operation by a special anti-galamsey task force, the women of Manso Bonteso have staged a protest to express their discontent.
The arrests were effected during an operation conducted by the IGP's Special Anti-Galamsey Taskforce, igniting outrage among community members. "Our children have no job opportunities, and you're trying to block their only source of livelihood (galamsey)," a group of frustrated women lamented.
In a post shared by SikaOfficial on X, on August 14, 2025, the residents of Bonteso could be seen arguing that illegal small-scale mining is a vital means of survival for many families in the region; hence, the recent crackdown has left them helpless. "Our children don't have any work to do, and you're collapsing galamsey - Disgruntled women of Manso Bonteso cried out following the arrest of the local assembly member and three others for their involvement in galamsey, during an operation by the IGP's Special Anti-Galamsey Taskforce," the caption of the post said.
