Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), has confirmed that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is awaiting the arrival of aviation experts and the manufacturers of the Z-9 military helicopter to determine the process for examining its anti-crash recorder, which was retrieved from the site of the August 6 crash.
Speaking when the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) visited him at Burma Camp to commiserate with the military over the loss of three officers and others in the incident, Lt Gen.
Agyapong explained that the device was being preserved and would form a key part of the ongoing investigations. "We are waiting on the experts and manufacturers, and a decision will be taken as to how it will be included in the investigation," he stated, noting that its contents, together with other collected evidence, would help define the scope of the probe.
Recounting the events after the crash, the CDS said despite difficult conditions, the recovery team acted with remarkable speed. "Despite the challenges, our team reached the site quickly, secured it and worked with available materials to recover the remains," he said.
