Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has announced the approval and immediate implementation of the GFA Registered Football Academy Licensing Regulations 2025, a landmark policy aimed at raising standards and safeguarding the development of young football talent in Ghana.

Speaking at the 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, Okraku said the new framework will regulate, license and oversee football academies nationwide, setting enforceable requirements for infrastructure, technical staff, child welfare, and operational integrity. "For far too long, the operation of football academies in Ghana has lacked uniformity and oversight," he noted. "This is a firm commitment to nurturing talent within a structured, professional and safe environment." Existing clubs using the word "Academy" in their names will have one year to meet the standards or drop the term and re-register as football clubs.

The rules also cover academies in Beach Soccer and Futsal for both boys and girls.

Okraku urged the football fraternity to embrace the reform, describing it as a crucial step for the future of the game.
