Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Awentami Paul Afoko, has expressed sorrow over the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, describing the loss as a devastating blow to the Asantehene, , and the entire Asanteman.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 11, 2025, Afoko noted that the death of the Queen Mother comes at a time when the Asante Kingdom is already mourning the loss of two prominent chiefs and a linguist.
He said the passing of the Otumfuo's only surviving sister and traditional mother was particularly heartbreaking. "I am particularly saddened by such a devastating blow to the Otumfuo on the loss of his only surviving sister and traditional mother," he stated.
Afoko recalled the honour he received earlier this year when the Asantehene sent a high-level delegation to attend his late father's funeral in Sandema, in the Upper East Region. "I have been a beneficiary of the great honour bestowed upon me by the Asantehene when he sent a high-level representation to my late father's funeral," he said.
