The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, describing him as an "illustrious son" of the region and a committed servant of Ghana.

Dr Omane Boamah was among eight people who perished in the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that plunged the nation into mourning.

The regional secretariat described his passing, and that of the other victims, as a devastating blow to the NDC family, the Eastern Region, and the country at large.

In a statement signed by Regional Chairman Ing Mark-Oliver Kevor, the Secretariat highlighted Dr Omane Boamah's distinguished career, which spanned several key government positions, including Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Minister of Communications; Spokesperson to the President; Director of Elections for the NDC; and, until his death, Minister of Defence. "He served with diligence, humility, compassion, and patriotism, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty to the NDC and selfless devotion to the people of Ghana," the statement noted, adding that he was a dependable comrade and a source of inspiration to the youth of the Eastern Region.
