The burial of Dr Ibrahim Moham­med Murtala, NDC MP for Tamale Central and Minister of Environ­ment Science and Technology, and Alhaji Mohamed Muniru Limuna, Acting National Security Coordinator, have been postponed following a directive from the government to examine their bodies before releasing them to the familiesIn accordance with Islamic tradition they were supposed to be buried immediately after the incident but a date will be fixed and then communicated back to the family after further examination.Dr Murtala was among other seven gov­ernment officials who was on board military helicopter that crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti RegionDr Murtala, the Minister for Environment Science and Technology, met his untimely dead alongside with Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister of Food and Agriculture; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; and Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidateThe rest were Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Men­sah.According to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) the Air Force Z9 helicopter, which departed Accra at 09:12 hours en route to Obuasi, lost radar contact shortly after take-off.Meanwhile thousands of residents and party sympathisers in Tamale, the regional capital of the northern region, thronged the family houses of Dr Ibrahim Murtala and Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Lumuna to sympathised with themAccording to the residents, they received the news of their death with shock and everybody was in a state of mourning after hearing the sad incident.The Constituency Secretary of the Tamale Central of NDC, Mr Umar Abdul Razak, in an interview with the media described his death as a loss to the entire NDC as a party and the nation.He said the MP was a listening leader and kind to everyone no matter the political affiliation.Mr Abdul Razak stated that he was paying school fees and hospital bills for needy peo­ple in the constituency.He stated that he was a strong Muslim and never joked with preaching as Muslim and "we know his soul already in Jannah."He added that they had lost a great leader in the constituency saying that he was a grassroots man and seen everywhere with the youth whenever he visited the constitu­ency."I am asking myself and my colleagues in the constituency that, can we get Dr Murtala again to do same work he was doing as MP?" he quizzed.The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John Mburidiba, led a delegation to inform the family of the tragic incident of the late MP.The minister told the family that Dr Murtala's death was great loss to the entire Dagbon and the nation at large. FROM YAHAYA NUHU NADAA, TAMALE
